How to Overcome Dental Anxiety

Dental Anxiety and Fear is real, and we understand that. The overwhelming fear of dental appointments can cause dental anxiety and is often the reason people do not come visit regularly. Even though you may have dental anxiety, you know that you need to visit the dentist for your general oral health. If you are picturing drills, white coats, pain and teeth pulling, think again. At Green Apple Implant & General Dentistry, we are not traditional and we will not remind you of the visual you have in your mind. Our office is designed to remind you of a spa, with a comfortable massage chair that you can relax in, a coffee machine, and the happy staff who is here to be your friend and help you. Our staff is trained to reduce your dental anxiety from the second you enter the office, and then provide you with painless treatments.

Here is a list of some of the most common dental fears and if you relate to any, be sure to continue reading the article:

  • Fear of embarrassment about your teeth
  • Fear of gagging
  • Fear of injections
  • Fear of loss of control
  • Fear of not becoming numb when injected with Novocain
  • Fear of pain
  • Fear of the dentist as a person
  • Fear of the hand piece

Remember, you are not the only one. About 9% and 20% of Canadians avoid going to the dentist because of dental anxiety.

Here are some of the ways we reduce dental anxiety for you:

Our pain control begins outside of the office, in the comfort of your own home. We are always available to chat with you about your dental concerns via phone (9058939227) or through our website chat feature located in the bottom right corner.

Once you get into our office, we have different ways of assisting you. First, we greet you with a calm voice from one of our lovely receptionists. Our printed material in the office is created with you in mind. We don’t have any material that will make you reminded of your dental anxiety. You will see painted artwork from local artists in Kleinburg, ON, and magazines from Hollywood. Our reception room is clean, modern and simple, designed to relax your mind and reduce your dental anxiety. Lastly, when you come into our office, you will not smell that classic dental office smell and we will have no instruments in your view.

We are comfortable with local anesthetic and topical rinses, liquids, sprays or gels that will help you reduce your anxiety. We also welcome you to bring noise cancelling headphones, relaxing music, a warm blanket, aromatherapy, homeopathic remedies for dental treatment, or anything else that may help with your dental anxiety. Even if you don’t bring anything, we have enough resources to help you out!

During the treatment, we have the options to use pain control anesthetics for you as well. When the treatment is over, we will sit you up so we can explain everything to you and to assure you everything will be okay.

If your dental anxiety is stemming from financial fears, we offer payment plans to help you. We understand that some treatments can be pricey and that is why we want to help you. Your health is your number 1 priority and we need to help you take care of that priority.
